課程概述 |
This course will focus on some recent developments in literary theory and related fields, understanding them in the context of a response to "post-theory" critiques and regressions. We will touch upon a variety of topics: potentiality and the common (Agamben), duration (Bergson), the time-image (Deleuze), form and plasticity (Malabou), and pharmacology (Stiegler). These will be taken up as variations of an attempt to reassess the status and intelligibility of theory (or, more generally, the field of the new) as we enter an age of the "society of control." |

課程目標 |
The main objective of this course is to introduce students to a deeper consideration of the current state of speculative theory in relation to the needs of literary studies. By examining how theory understands itself and how such understanding evolves in time, we can see that theory has been challenging us to move from a toolbox view of theory as a source of templates of analysis to a systemic view in which theory is useful for literary studies mainly because of its questioning of the common as a field of the new. Theory always reopens such questioning in search of a viable way to produce insights and actantial effectivities in reading, writing, knowing, and imagining.
